Safe Schools Program: A Sanctuary for Learning

At OLPH Primary School, the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of our students is our highest priority. Our Safe Schools Program is a comprehensive framework designed to ensure that every child feels secure, valued, and respected from the moment they enter our gates.

Our Commitment to Child Protection

We believe that a child who feels safe is a child who is ready to learn. Our program is built on the following pillars:

  • Zero Tolerance for Bullying: We foster a culture of kindness and “Unhu/Ubuntu,” where every student is taught to be their brother’s and sister’s keeper.
  • Safe Physical Environment: From our state-of-the-art boarding facilities to our playgrounds, we maintain rigorous safety standards and constant supervision.
  • Emotional Well-being: We provide a nurturing atmosphere where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and seeking guidance from trusted educators.
  • Catholic Ethos & Values: Our program is grounded in our faith, emphasizing the dignity of every human person and the importance of a respectful, quiet, and prayerful environment.

Key Features of the Program:

  • The OLPH Culture of Respect: Our unique school cultures—including the “Culture of Silence” and “Culture of Greeting”—are designed to minimize conflict and promote an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • Qualified Supervision: Our staff are trained in child protection protocols and are dedicated to maintaining a “hub of education for the soul.”
  • Open Communication: We maintain a transparent partnership with parents, ensuring that any concerns regarding student welfare are addressed immediately and with the utmost care.

Our Promise: To provide a sanctuary where children can grow, play, and learn without fear, guided by the light of Christ and the values of our community.

Safe school is a wholesome approach that involves learners, teachers, school management, ancillary staff as well as the community being implemented in the best interests of the child.

Why safe schools?
• As OLPH, we strive to provide a holistic and balanced education that nurtures the body, mind and soul of learners

• Raise awareness to learners on the referral pathway. The school intend to invite stakeholders in the school such as The Department of Social Development [DSD] : Which is responsible for guiding case management , provide standards and guidelines on the appropriate and mandatory response to allegations of abuse and other child protection concerns

Empower the Child led committee. About ten learners were chosen from grade 4 to grade 7 to be advocates of the school. These learners will be inducted so that they will understand and embrace their role. Their mandate is to promote a culture of child protection and ensure that their voices are heard. They help identify potential risks, report concerns, and support positive change within the school environment.

• Platforms will be created for learners to showcase their talents through poems , singing ,writing articles ,compose songs . and at the same the time spread the word on safe schools.

The programme aims also at empowering parents on eliminating violence against children. Dialogue sessions among parents will be created were by they will discuss on effective and constructive ways to relate to children and eliminate violence against children.
