Juniors Department: Building Academic Independence

Empowering Confident and Competent Learners

The Juniors Department at Our Lady of Perpetual Help serves as the bridge between early childhood discovery and high school specialization. During these five years (Grade 3 – Grade 7), our students are challenged to take ownership of their learning, sharpen their critical thinking, and deepen their commitment to our school values.

A Rigorous & Balanced Curriculum

Our Junior curriculum is designed to be both locally relevant and globally competitive.

  • Core Subjects: Intensive focus on Mathematics, English and Science
  • Information and Communication Technology: Developing digital literacy and research skills as part of our commitment to modern innovation.
  • Religious Education: Integrating our Catholic Ethos through Faith Formation into daily lessons to ensure moral growth alongside academic success.

Leadership & Character Development

As students move into the “Senior Juniors” (Grades 6 and 7), they are given more responsibility within the school community.

  • Junior Prefects: Grade 7 students serve as leaders and role models, assisting staff and mentoring younger learners.
  • The Culture of Service: Juniors participate in community service projects, embodying the spirit of Unhu/Ubuntu.
  • Inter-House Competitions: From debate and public speaking to athletics and swimming, our Juniors learn the value of healthy competition and teamwork.

Preparation for Grade 7 Examinations

The Junior Department journey culminates in the Grade 7 examinations. We provide:

  • Targeted Revision Programs: Helping students master exam techniques and manage time effectively.
  • Career Awareness: Introducing students to various professional paths to inspire their choice of High School pathways.
  • Transition Workshops: Bridging the gap between Primary and High School to ensure our students move forward with confidence.

Beyond the Classroom

The Junior years are a time for exploration. Our students are encouraged to participate in:

  • Educational Excursions: Termly trips to historical, scientific, and cultural sites across Zimbabwe.
  • Specialist Clubs: Including Chess, Drama, and the OLPH Choir.

“Educating is an act of love; it is like giving life.”— Pope Francis
